Botanical Ghosts is a body of work inspired by an enormous Hollyhock which grew from a crack in the concrete in my front garden.  Natural and artificial light were blocked by this plant creating delicate and beautiful shadows and around my home. These silhouettes were ghostly shapes which suggested a presence and a sense of something that was not quite there. My desire was to reproduce this and the ephemerality and fragility of these shadows.  Investigations initially took the form of photographs, drawings and videos which developed into embroideries and prints. After much experimentation cyanotype, natural dyes and delicate cotton organdie were employed to complete my body of work.
